Social Security Disability

The Social Security Administration has two programs to help you if you become disabled.

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) – pays benefits to you and certain members of your family if you are “insured,” meaning that you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) - pays benefits based on financial need.

The Security Security Administration denies the majority of disability applications. Luckily, even if the SSA denies you initial application, a claimant can ask the SSA for a hearing to convince an administrative law judge to change the determination.
